Jim Kilmartin received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration
from Rochester Institute of Technology. A couple of years
later he received his Associate degree in Advertising
from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. It was at RIT
that Jim began using colored pencils.
"Colored pencils gave me the opportunity to get really
close to the paper and get very detailed. The arrays of
colors available are incredible. My subject of choice
is people. I love finding all the different colors in
a person's face and in the wrinkles and shadows of their
clothes. With colored pencils, there's no limit to the
possibilities."
Jim has lived on Cape Cod for close to 11 years. In that
time he has been the recipient of two First Place awards,
one Second Place award and an Honorable Mention from the
Cape Cod Art Association. Jim also received an Honorable
Mention in the Colored Pencil Exhibition 2000 which appeared
at the Vera Curnow Gallery & Art Center in Rising
Sun, IN. As a member of the Colored Pencil Society of
America, Jim has had the honor of having his work selected
twice to appear in the CPSA annual shows. Most recently,
Jim was asked by the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod to develop
a self portrait for their show "Self Portrait Cape
Cod", which runs from January 5th to February 9th
2008. He will also be displaying his work at the Cultural
Center of Cape Cod from January 30th to February 10th
2008.
